A weekend of fly fishing in Utah’s Uinta Mountains turned into a battle with Mother Nature. Between torrential rain, howling winds, and painfully cold fingers, we managed to catch brook trout, tiger trout, and an Arctic grayling. We lost the battle with the weather, but I'd call the weekend a win.
River Things
A native trout, a freestone river, a pile of deer bones, and absolutely nothing that needed accomplishing. Three cold days on the West Fork Duchesne River chasing cutthroat and the increasingly rare pleasure of being bad at something just because it’s fun.

Three days on Teton Pass for Joey’s birthday, with hitchhiked shuttle laps, huge jumps, freezing lake swims, BB guns, beers, and one of the best campsites I’ve ever found. Also mosquitoes. So many mosquitoes.
Challenge Accepted
A one-night camp on Alexander Loop in the Uintas, where a bad forecast, a $30 tarp, soggy boots, and a surprise summer snowstorm turned into exactly the kind of challenge I was looking for.
